Pattern of the Examination
The SSC CGL selection process is strictly computer-based and spans across two Tiers.
Tier-I Exam Pattern (Qualifying Structure) :
Tier-I consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions set in both English and Hindi (except the English section). It has a uniform structural duration of 1 hour with mandatory 15-minute sectional timers for each segment.
Subject | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
General Intelligence & Reasoning | 25 | 50 | 15 |
General Awareness | 25 | 50 | 15 |
Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 | 15 |
English Comprehension | 25 | 50 | 15 |
Total | 100 | 200 | 1Hour |
Key Exam Rules & Marking Scheme :
- Negative Marking: 0.50 marks will be deducted for each incorrect response.
- Sectional Timer: Each of the 4 sections has an independent 15-minute timer. Once time for a section expires, it locks automatically, and unused time cannot be transferred to another subject. Â
- Compensatory Time: Scribe-eligible candidates receive 20 minutes per section (total duration of 1 hour and 20 minutes). Â
- Medium of Exam: Bilingual (Hindi and English), except for Part D (English Comprehension). Â
- Nature of Exam: Tier-I is qualifying/screening in nature; marks scored are used to shortlist candidates for Tier-II and are not added to the final merit ranking. Â
