Pattern of the Examination

The SSC CGL selection process is strictly computer-based and spans across two Tiers.

Tier-I Exam Pattern (Qualifying Structure) :

Tier-I consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions set in both English and Hindi (except the English section). It has a uniform structural duration of 1 hour with mandatory 15-minute sectional timers for each segment.

Key Exam Rules & Marking Scheme :

  • Negative Marking: 0.50 marks will be deducted for each incorrect response.
  • Sectional Timer: Each of the 4 sections has an independent 15-minute timer. Once time for a section expires, it locks automatically, and unused time cannot be transferred to another subject.
  • Compensatory Time: Scribe-eligible candidates receive 20 minutes per section (total duration of 1 hour and 20 minutes).
  • Medium of Exam: Bilingual (Hindi and English), except for Part D (English Comprehension).
  • Nature of Exam: Tier-I is qualifying/screening in nature; marks scored are used to shortlist candidates for Tier-II and are not added to the final merit ranking.
