(आबौनि गावारि जुनारसालिआव ट’ट’आ माबोरै फैदों?)

Answer: Toto came to Grandfather’s private zoo when Grandfather bought him from a tonga-driver for five rupees. The tonga-driver kept the monkey tied to a feeding trough. Grandfather felt sorry for Toto and decided to add him to his private zoo.

Answer: Toto was a pretty monkey because he had bright sparkling eyes, deep-set eyebrows, pearly white teeth, and quick, clever fingers. His tail also added to his beauty and usefulness, as he could use it like a third hand.

 

(बिबौआ ट’ट’खौ सहारनपुरसिम मानो लानानै थाङो आरो माबोरै ? टिकेट बुथुमग्राया मानो ट’ट’खौ सैमा बुंनो नारसिनो?)

Answer: Grandfather took Toto to Saharanpur because he had to collect his pension there. He carried Toto in a big black canvas bag. Toto kept moving and jumping inside the bag, which attracted the attention of other passengers.

            The ticket collector insisted on calling Toto a dog because Toto suddenly poked his head out of the bag at the railway station. The ticket collector said that any animal that looked like a dog and travelled with a passenger must be charged a fare like a dog. Therefore, Grandfather had to pay three rupees as Toto’s fare.

 

 

(ट’ट’आ माबोरै दुगैयो? बियो बबेयाव बेखौ खालामनो सोलोंखो? ट’ट’ आ माबोरै गावखौ गोथाङैनो फुदुंखो?)

Answer: Toto took his bath in a very funny way. He would first test the temperature of the water with his hand. If the water was warm enough, he stepped into the tub slowly and soaped himself just like a human being. He rubbed soap all over his body and rinsed himself carefully. He had probably learnt this by watching the narrator taking baths. 

             One day, during winter, Toto found a large kettle filled with warm water on the kitchen fire. Feeling cold, he got into the kettle to keep himself warm. As the water became hotter, Toto kept jumping up and sitting down again because he did not want to leave the warm water. If Grandmother had not noticed him in time and taken him out, Toto would have boiled himself alive.

Answer: The author says, “Toto was not the sort of pet we could keep for long” because Toto was very mischievous and destructive. He tore clothes, broke dishes, damaged wallpaper, and troubled other animals in the house. Although he was clever and amusing, it became difficult and expensive for the family to manage him. Therefore, Grandfather finally decided that Toto could not be kept as a pet for a long time.
