This examination determines eligibility for ‘Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor’, ‘Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’, and ‘Admission to Ph.D. only’.

NTA UGC NET June 2026

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the information bulletin for the UGC-NET June 2026 cycle, inviting applications from eligible Indian nationals. This examination is conducted on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to Ph.D. programs in Indian universities and colleges. The application window is open from 29 April 2026 to 20 May 2026, with the examination scheduled to take place between 22 June and 30 June 2026 in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

Candidates are advised to read the official notification carefully before filling out the application form.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Qualifying Marks: General/EWS candidates need at least 55% marks in their Master’s degree. Reserved categories (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender) require at least 50% marks.  
  • Age Limit (JRF): Candidates must not be more than 30 years old as of 01.06.2026. Relaxation of up to 5 years is available for reserved categories and women applicants.  
  • Age Limit (Assistant Professor & Ph.D.): There is no upper age limit.  
  • 4 Year Bachelor Degree Candidate Also Eligible.

Fee Structure

Fees must be paid online via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI. 

  • General/Unreserved: Rs. 1150/- 
  • Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL: Rs. 600/- 
  • SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: Rs. 325/-

Examination Pattern

The test will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only. It consists of two compulsory papers with no break between them.

  • Paper I: 100 Marks (50 Questions) focusing on Teaching/Research Aptitude, Reasoning, and General Awareness.
  • Paper II: 200 Marks (100 Questions) based on the specific subject selected by the candidate.
  • Total Duration: 180 minutes (3 hours).
  • Marking Scheme: Each correct answer carries 2 marks. There is no negative marking for incorrect responses.

How to Apply for NTA UGC NET June 2026 ?

Applications are accepted through online mode only via the official website: ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

 

1. Registration: Use a unique Email ID and Mobile Number.

 

2. Application Form: Fill in personal and educational details and note the system-generated Application Number. 

 

3. Upload Documents: Upload a live photograph, a scanned recent photograph (10kb-200kb), and a scanned signature (4kb-30kb).

 

4. Payment: Pay the examination fee through the integrated payment gateway.
