The State Bank of India (SBI) has officially released its mega recruitment advertisement for the year 2026-27, announcing 7,150 vacancies for the post of Apprentice across various states and Union Territories. Eligibility Criteria for Assam Home Guards Recruitment 2026
1. Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 20 years Â
- Maximum Age: 28 years Â
- Candidates must have been born between April 2, 1998, and April 1, 2006 (both days inclusive). Age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates as per Government of India guidelines.
- Graduation from a recognized University or Institute.
- Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training earlier (in SBI or any other organization) or who have a year or more of prior job experience/training after graduation are NOT eligible.

- Negative Marking: There will be a deduction of 1/4th of the mark assigned to a question for every wrong answer. Â
- Medium of Exam: Except for General English, test questions will be available in English, Hindi, and specified regional languages depending on the state applied for.
2. Local Language Test
- After qualifying the online written test, candidates must clear a local language proficiency test.  For Assam : Assamese, Bengali, and Bodo.
- Exemption: Candidates who provide a 10th or 12th standard mark sheet/certificate proving they studied the opted local language will not need to take this language test.

FAQs – SBI Apprentice Recruitment 2026
1. Is this a permanent or contract job in State Bank of India?
No. This is strictly a 1-year training program under the Apprentices Act, 1961. It is not permanent employment, nor is it a contract job. SBI has no obligation to offer regular or permanent employment after the completion of the training period.
2. What is the monthly stipend for an SBI Apprentice?
Selected candidates will receive a stipend of Rs. 15,000/- per month for the 1-year training period. No other allowances or employee benefits are provided.
3. What are the benefits of completing this apprenticeship?
Upon successfully passing the skill evaluation test (Trade Test) at the end of the year, you will receive a Joint National Apprenticeship Certificate. This certificate gives you weightage and relaxation in future recruitments for permanent Junior Associate (Clerk) positions within SBI, subject to bank policy.
4. What is the selection process and exam pattern?
Selection is based on an Online Written Test (100 objective questions for 100 marks, 1 hour total duration) followed by a Local Language Test. There is a negative marking of 1/4th of a mark for every incorrect answer in the written test.
5. Can someone with a record of loan default apply?
No. Candidates who have defaulted on any loan or credit card repayments and have an adverse CIBIL report are not eligible for engagement. If your outstanding dues are fully cleared/repaid on or before the date the bank issues the offer letter, you must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the lender.
