1. Let’s find out how much we have understood
(फै जों बेसेबां बुजिदों बेखौ मिथिनि):
(a) What is a hobby? (हवाट इस ए हब्बि ? )
(मोनसे मोजां मोननाय हाबाया मा?)
Ans: Activities which give us fun and joy are hobby.
(जाय हाबाफारिफोरा जोंखौ रंजानाय आरो खुसि होयो, बेफोरनो मोजां मोननाय हाबा।)
(b) What do hobbies give us? (हवाट दु हब्बिस गिभ आस?)
(मोजां मोन्नाय हाबाफोरा जोंनो मा होयो?)
Ans: Hobbies give us fun and joy, and keep us fit and active.
(मोजां मोननाय खामानिया जोंनो रंजानाय आरो गोजोन होयो, आरो जोंखौ गोख्रों आरो सांग्रां लाखियो।)
(c) What is philately? What difficulty would you face if you take up philately ? ( फिलाटलीया मा ? नों फिलाटली लायोब्ला मा गोब्राबथिजों मोगा-मोगि जानो गोनां जागोन ? )
Ans: The collecting and study of stamps is called philately.
It is difficult to find stamps now because people use emails and SMS instead of letters.
(d) What is Irfan’s hobby? What does he like to do?
( इरफाननि मोजां मोननाय हाबाया मा? बियो मा खालामनो मोजां मोनो? )
Ans: Irfan’s hobby is painting. He likes to sit and paint landscapes.

(e) Name a few indoor and outdoor hobbies.
माखासे सिंआरि आरो बायजोआरि मोजां मोननाय हाबाफोरनि मुं हो।
Ans: Indoor hobbies: Reading, singing, painting, collecting stamps, etc.
Outdoor hobbies: Gardening, Swimming, photography, trekking, etc.
(f) What is a kitchen garden?
(ओंखाम संग्रानि बागाना मा?)
Ans: A kitchen garden is a garden where we grow vegetables.
(g) “Every morning I water the plants and clean the beds.” – What does ‘beds’ mean here?
(“सामफ्रामबो फुंआव आं लाइफांफोरखौ दै होयो आरो एमफोरखौ साफा खालामो।”-बिहाय ‘एम’ नि ओंथिया मा ?)
Ans: ‘Beds’ means the surface of the ground where plants are grown.

The teacher will make the students sit in groups, and ask the participants of each
group to speak in turns. One participant will start with one sentence about his or
her hobby and the next participant will continue the presentation.

5. Parveen’s hobby is baking. Fill in the blanks in the paragraph below with words that rhyme with bake, such as shake:
परवीननि मोजां मोननाय हाबाया “baking” (बेकिंग)। गाहायाव होनाय पैराग्राफआव सोदोबफोरजों लांदां जायगाफोरखौ आबुं खालाम जाय bake नि rhyme, जेरै shake बायदि।
Ans: Juri said to Parveen, “Please tell me how to bake a cake.” Parveen replied, “Preheat the oven to 350°F and gather all the ingredients you need to make a cake. Take 2 cups of flour, 4 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup butter or oil, 1 teaspoon baking powder and vanilla essence. You will need a cake pan and a sieve too. Put the flour and baking powder into the sieve. Shake the sieve to remove lumps, if any. Cream the butter and sugar. Add a few drops of vanilla essence. Take care to make the mixture light and creamy. Beat in the eggs and shake them one at a time. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture little by little. Don’t forget to grease the cake pan and dust it with flour. Then shake the smooth mixture and pour it into the pan. Place the mixture in the oven till your cake turns golden brown.”
