The words ‘is’, ‘am’, ‘are’, ‘was’ and ‘were’ are different forms of the verb ‘be’. The forms ‘is’, ‘am’ and ‘are’ are used in the present tense, and ‘was’ and ‘were’ are used in the past tense.
